Child playing with blocks - neurofeedback for ADHD and attention training in Athens

Attention Deficit Disorder &
Hyperactivity (ADHD)

Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by persistent symptoms of inattention and/or hyperactivity-impulsivity, which do not correspond to the individual's developmental level and affect their functioning .

The picture is not the same for everyone. In some individuals, attention difficulties predominate, in others hyperactivity & impulsivity, while characteristics from both categories may coexist.

The functional image may include:

  • Difficulty maintaining attention or completing activities

  • Easily distracted by external stimuli or thoughts

  • Difficulty organizing, planning, or managing time

  • Frequent loss of objects or difficulty in carrying out daily tasks

  • Difficulty waiting one's turn or frequent interruptions in speech & interference in the activities of others

  • Impulsive reactions without adequate assessment of consequences

  • Difficulty regulating arousal or emotional intensity

The presence of individual characteristics does not necessarily mean that the individual has ADHD. The diagnosis is based on a specialized clinical evaluation, which takes into account the age of onset, duration, manifestation of symptoms in different settings, and their impact on learning, social, occupational, or daily functioning.

The contribution of qEEG Brain Mapping & EEG Neurofeedback

qEEG Brain Mapping is not a stand-alone diagnostic tool for ADHD, it does not confirm or exclude the diagnosis & does not determine the cause of the difficulties by itself. It records & analyzes the electrical activity of the brain, providing data on its function, which is taken into account with the history, clinical assessment & the overall picture of each individual.

During EEG Neurofeedback, the brain receives real-time visual & auditory feedback, which changes according to its electrical activity. Training can focus on functions related to regulating alertness, maintaining attention & controlling impulsive reactions.

The program is designed individually, based on the qEEG Brain Mapping data, the history & functional profile of each individual. EEG Neurofeedback can be integrated as a complement to a broader treatment framework & does not replace medical monitoring, medication or appropriate psychological, behavioral & educational interventions.

With the aim of:

  • Strengthening the ability to maintain attention

  • Improving the ability to regulate alertness

  • Support for controlling impulsive reactions

  • Strengthening mental endurance when completing activities

  • Improving the ability to regulate emotional intensity

  • Limiting the impact of difficulties on daily functioning
